Ever one to rejoice in a new business, I have been a bit lax in sharing this fab new activity centre with you and should have blogged about it before now, especially as newroomsonline provided one of their first prizes for a competition!
Kilnworx is the new climbing centre for Stoke-on-Trent, based in a former church in Burslem.
We were invited along to the opening ceremony which was great fun and an eye opener. From the outside you would never expect what pleasures lie within.
Director, Lionel Bunting, made the decision to add some contemporary design to communal areas, sourcing lighting and seating from the country’s finest lighting supplier, Design-Conscious, based in Burnley.
The project has taken a good two years to come to fruition, transforming the former Wycliffe Hall into a much needed climbing resource, benefiting the community in more ways than pure employment creation.
If the Olympics has done nothing else, it has made us realise that as a nation we are very good at sports. You could fit the UK into a tiny province of China or the US yet we still came out third in the medals….so while the momentum is still there, get children interested in sports. Climbing at Kilnworx is not just for the adult….the kids at the opening were having an absolutely great time…..
…and their nerve and fearlessness knew no bounds!
Kilnworx offers four different membership packages, for children and adults, but if you just want to turn up for the day then that’s perfectly fine too. The offer concessions for;
- NHS & Emergency Services
- Armed Forces
- Scout Association
I don’t know much about climbing but the place is rammed with routes, tuition, kit hire and a small cafe. If this is your local and you’re stuck for what next this summer holiday, then give it a go!
It’s very easy to find, just ten minutes off the M6. Take Junction 16 as your exit and follow the A500 towards Stoke and Newcastle under Lyne. At the third main roundabout take a left onto the A5271 towards Burslem.
